more book news!

I got my copy of the Achewood book in the mail today! woo. I will read it this weekend and write a review. In the meantime, large amounts of thanks to Aaron Colter at Dark Horse for sending it to me.

If there are any new(ish) webcomic products you want me to review (ie, you want me to try to get for FREE) let me know. I am a vast internet force now.

  3. I never did get into Achewood. I don't deny that it may be brilliant, but I tried reading it a few months ago and just never got into it. It's probably one of those character-driven strips that I'd appreciate more if I read through the archives, but that's a Herculean task and I am a weak man.

Anyway, while I know for a fact the Wondermark strip collections would be brilliant (it IS Wondermark after all), I do wonder, are his parody Victorian novels worth reading? Trying to decide if they're worth a purchase or not.

  7. So...which XKCD comics do you like?

Because you say the site has gone downhill, which implies that it was once up a hill.

It only gets good a year into its run. When Ray, Roast Beef and Pat are introduced.
I'd suggest starting here as it is the first storyarc:

(It took me three tries to get into Achewood)

  11. "The Great Outdoor Fight" sold me on Achewood, even after a friend exposed me to a funny arc. It's just such an 'event' book, and I got sucked in.

  12. Achewood is pretty much the greatest comic strip ever, if you can't get into it I pity you. The stories about how Onstad met the characters was worth the price of the book alone.

  13. Oh, I like the Achewood. Nate: I would suggest just reading a few of the arcs, which are linked to from the main site. It's definitely character-driven, yeah, but I think you'll get the personalities of the characters after a few arcs.
