guys I have learned about the most insane thing it is called 'sex'

This is long overdue. Randall Munroe is rapidly turning his comic into a sex obsessed weirdo oasis. You know the comics I mean. Just - lots of talk about sex. It would be ok if were only there a little bit, say, in approximate proportion to how often actual humans talk about sex. But it's not. It's like all the friggin time and it ends up just seeming really, really creepy.

Special subcategory: the comics where he has two or more people casually discussing sex as though that is the most normal thing in the world. Maybe he wants people to act like that but as long as they don't (read: forever), the characters end up looking really strange. Those comics get a "N" (for "Not awkward at all")

Another special subcategory: He has this crazy obsession with oral sex, particularly man-on-woman. Those get a a "C" (you figure out that one on your own). (If you can't figure it out on your own, remember that Randy is the genius who jumped on registering the cu.nniling.us domain to link to his comic)

  5. Jay: So awesome. I added one or two and deleted one or two, but many thanks for doing that, braving a great deal of terrible sexy shit for the common good.

  6. Carl I am inferring from the comments that you asked for someone to make a list and then when Jay dutifully supplied one you erased all traces of your original post! WHAT AN ORWELLIAN THING TO DO

anyway damn that is one long list

  7. Extrapolating these worrying trends, I think we are headed for a runaway xkcd sexplosion.

  8. ha ha, YEP. Also I will soon be deleting Jay's comment, your comment that figured out the whole thing, and this comment where I brilliantly explain my fiendish plot.

  10. Anon 9:40 rather than have Excel or whatever generate that for you, you should have just drawn that chart by hand and posted it as a webcomic. You can make serious dough that way.

  11. Man, I love the phrase "sex obsessed weirdo oasis" so, so much.

  12. Well, Randall does bring up sex more often as of late, but, statistically, he actually does talk about it as much as human beings.

Let's consider the last 100 comics, because that's reasonable to say is "recent." We're at 614, and assuming your list is exhaustive, in the past 100 comics, he's talked about it... 17 times. Doesn't seem quite as high.

However, if you wish to contrast this amount to the eternity of Randall's comics, which is 32/614, the CONTRAST is much greater. (He talks about it 3.5 times as much, however, my math may be off a bit)

My nitpicky resolve is that Randall, at this point, brings up sex about as much as the average Canadian emerging adult (Which is me), which is to say a little less than 1/5 of the conversation. (Sometimes videogames, recent events, people, gossip, but between 1/6 and 1/5 seems accurate (This depends on your friend group, as well)).

If you wish to point out that Randall's style has degraded from classic, original humour to "easier," low-brow humour, well even the statistics agree with you there. Arguing that he is talking about it more than the average person, though, I beg to differ.

  13. "-in approximate proportion to how often actual humans talk about sex."

Maybe I spend too much time on the internet, where people are more open than in face-to-face situations, but this point seems absolutely contradictory to me.

Perhaps we live in different worlds, but in the one I live in, sex is the topic of every other conversation. Not just with hormone-charged teenagers, either. I cannot go a full day without overhearing someone else's conversation about sex, no matter where I go. The internet, family gatherings, the supermarket.

Prove to me that people don't talk about sex nearly as often as they... do... and I'll hail you as a savior, sir.

  14. Wait a minute... 594 is a sex comic?

Huh, I missed the day when they declared that menstruation = sex.

But yeah, that list is extremelly worrying. NOBODY in the world ever talks about sex, and the fact that Randall does in his own webcomic can only mean he's sick.

    ReplyDelete
  15. All those cunnilingus comics amuse me. He really aches to be loved, "Look women [Megan], I know about cunnilingus!". Add that to his enormous amount of creepy relationship strips and general tendency to pamper his "geeky" audience. Get out of my head Randall!

C for CARL! Because Carl is really into that shit!

    Wait, what?

"NOBODY in the world ever talks about sex"

    You are being...

    sarcastic...

    Right?

If you aren't, then could you inform me of which world, exactly, you live on?

  19. I posted a critical comment on Fernie's comment, and it hasn't shown up.

Carl, are you moderating just so you can protect all of your best buds?

  20. I don't get how 507 qualifies as "not awkward at all". You can't say it feels weird how casually the girl is discusing sex, because we don't even know thats what she's talking about until the punchline. Besides, it doesn't matter if she discuses sex in a strange way because the whole joke was about how she has sex in a strange way.

594 counts because of the awful, awful dialogue in the first panel.

    ReplyDelete
  22. sorry, old posts (and this one is backdated so it counts) are still moderated in case the Ass Turds man is lurking around. So you have to be slightly patient with them, but I'll approve things eventually.

507 qualifies for an N because it in real life, no one would point at a group of people and go "Those guys! Those are the guys I am having sex with!" Sure, she says it as "the guys from group B" but both she and the dude know what that means.

  23. Seeing xkcd figures get up to all sorts is what probably inspired my own parody, "fkcd":

  26. On the border, but I'll add it.

  27. I may just be stupid, but what the hell does 604 have to do with sex?

  28. "eating out" = cunnilingus, hence the "C" label

  29. amanda, using her newfound powers of commenting on old posts. feels nice, doesn't it?

  30. haha i was actually going to write "wooooo this is awesome, i can post on old posts" but then decided not to spam people

but since you went ahead and commented too, wooooo this is awesome, i can post on old posts

  31. also you may want to note that http://cu.nniling.us links to xkcd

  32. But sex is the most normal thing in the world... girls who act like this are cute...

You people need to get out more

...how did i even stumble upon this area of the internet?

    ReplyDelete
  33. you sir, are part of the problem.

Linking anon: good point. I remember that link but forgot to include it here, in its logical home. I shall add it...momentarily!

    ReplyDelete
  34. You might want to add comic #765. Although it is technically not sex, there are, in a high likelihood (stupid xkcd stick figure art) naked people in it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh, also, you should add all of the new ones. I just realized this list is horribly outdated:

    751
746 (sort of, it's got naked people in it)
    744 OMFG
734 (borderline, but they call it romantic comedy for a reason)
    717 WTF
714 (the word "fuck" definitely clinches it, as well as "porn")
713 (you don't have to count this one, but I figured I might put this up here in case you decide to use it)
    708
    696 wat o_o

  36. Thank you for reminding me to update this. It shall be done in a moment.
