Comics 1020-1022: So It Has Come To This
1020. LOLOLOLOL PENIS
1021. So, on the one hand, I can't tell what the joke is supposed to be here. On the other hand, it doesn't actually bother me. It's a decent pencil sketch and though it fails to capture the murderous look in the eye of every seagull, you know, whatever. Reminiscent of the very early XKCDs, back before he felt like he had to make every comic into . . .
1022. This one isn't abnormally terrible but it is pretty much representative of what XKCD is now. This is something I've seen people say before, and as a genre of joke it's pretty common as well: say something unnecessarily dramatic in response to something mundane as a way to generate humor. Whereas most people will be content with making this joke from time to time, Randy decided, probably after seeing someone use it, to codify it into his comic forever. Randy thinks that mundane, not-really-that-funny ways of being funny are worth putting into comic form and sharing with the world. It's hard not to think that maybe he's not actually trying to be funny here. Maybe he's just trying to hijack a common joke so that every time his fans make a common joke they think of him. Regardless of whether or not he's trying, it works, and it's becoming a problem.

Rob, you wrote this?
ReplyDeleteIt was really sensible, and true.
Also your tone makes it sound like you just give up, like, hey, this terrible webcomic guy still exists, and whatever.
But, you know, you didn't give up by just not posting.
Waiting out on comic 1024. I'm jumping ship after that. Fuck you all, and good luck with this shit.
ReplyDeleteThink it will be a repeat of comic 1000? Just a big picture of 10000000000_2?
Deletea rehash, that is.
DeleteRandy in a nutshell.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with 1021 is that it's not funny... who cares about the art quality? If I cared about art quality I wouldn't read xkcd.
ReplyDeleteIf you care about it being funny, why do you read xkcd? I am very smug about this issue.
DeleteBecause xkcd is funny.
Deletefrom the forum
ReplyDelete'This comic definitely got a laugh out of me. I am so using this phrase at work tomorrow!'
'I'm gonna go respond to 12 random Facebook statuses with "So...It has come to this" right now!'
'THIS.
Every day for the rest of my life.'
'I'm definitely going to use this at some point tomorrow or the next day.
"So, hows life been for the past few weeks?"
"Ummmm......So.It has come to this."'
'I'm disappointed. I want to use this sometime during this period (I'm in web dev) and haven't gotten the chance. Oh well. I'm sure I'll get the chance later. Anyone used it yet?
EDIT: SUCCESS!'
fuck me. is this what they mean by 'sheeple'
"During this period"? Is that like a standard female unit of time?
DeleteProbably means class period, such as being in web dev class at the moment.
Deletefukken spergs lmao
Deleteow my period

Deletechris houlihan's room
ReplyDeleteSo I know what the Chris Houlihan room is in A Link to the Past, but why do I see this posted here all the time? What significance does it have?
DeleteIt's none, right? You're just trying to get people to respond? I fell for it, didn't I?
hi i'm the anon from 1:07. i can't believe someone actually responded, and knew the reference! You see, i'm not really a troll. i just want tofind meaningful human contact.
Deletewhen my mom said I would not find true friends on the internet she was wrong! will you be my friend, anon 1:11?
I can't believe 1:11 cracked. I thought he was better than that.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you compounded 1:11's shame like that. What kind of monster are you?
DeleteI can't believe. What is it like?
DeleteBets are on. What will be xkcd's leap year day comic? What hilarious observations does he have to make about leap years? Something about people having their birthday on the 29th, maybe? Can't wait to see. Simply can't wait.
ReplyDeleteYou're making the mistake that randall's posts are timely. They're hardly ever timely.
DeleteYou're making the mistake that randall's posts are timely. They're hardly ever timely.
DeleteMaybe I'm the first person here to say it but I find time really boring. I have finished doing hundreds of pieces of work of various lengths and probably started a dozen throughout my life, not including schoolwork.
DeleteI find it hard to finish some work without immediately engaging a mindset of, "Here's a consumable that some guy will take from me to lose money and/or load some issues. What comfortable fantasy am I eliminating to enable this?" And that's how my whole sequential experience goes. Time makes no point well which can't be better made with reference to position. It takes me nowhere without giving me the uncomfortable sense that someone thinks that I will already have been there. Time idealises; it romanticises; it preaches. It falls asleep and it dreams. It is a selfish journey away from the truth.
The world already has enough that is slow to come and that has already passed - and simultaneity is far more challenging to confront. Time has always seemed like the easy way out.
did that meme come from here? i keep seeing it and it's almost... creative. where's the blind, foaming hatred?
DeleteSince when are snowclones creative? I don't think they're creative.
DeleteMaybe I'm the first person here to say it but I find 24-hour days really boring. I have started hundreds of 24-hour days in my life and probably finished a dozen, not including schoolwork.
DeleteI find it hard to start a 24-hour day without immediately engaging a mindset of, "Here's a period of time that some evil oneist has imagined in order to educate me stupid and/or unload some issues. What comfortable fantasy is he creating to enable this?" And that's how my whole oneist time experience goes. It makes no point well which can't be better made with reference to four simultaneous days. It takes me nowhere without giving me the uncomfortable sense that Earth actually has four simultaneous days. Oneism idealises; it romanticises; it preaches. It falls asleep and it dreams. It is a selfish journey away from the truth.
The world already has enough that is beautiful and that is abhorrent - and four simultaneous days are far more challenging to confront. Oneism has always seemed like the easy way out.
I still have a crush on you, Rob.
Deleteyou're the only weaselsoup for me
DeleteMaybe I'm the first person here to say it but I find life really boring. I have started living hundreds of lives of various lengths and probably finished a dozen throughout my life, not including reincarnation.
DeleteI find it hard to talk to living people without immediately engaging a mindset of, "Here's a life that some guy has started in order to make money and/or unload some issues. What comfortable suffering is he ignoring to enable this?" And that's how my whole living experience goes. Life makes no point well which can't be better made with reference to death. It takes me nowhere without giving me the uncomfortable sense that someone thinks this is where I am supposed to need to be in order to see something false or escape something true. Life idealises; it romanticises; it preaches. It falls asleep and it dreams. It is a selfish journey away from death.
Death already has enough that is beautiful and that is abhorrent - and mortality is far more challenging to confront. Life has always seemed like the easy way out.
Maybe I'm the first Person here to say it but I find german Capitalisation really annoying. I have started writing hundreds of german Posts of various Lengths and probably finished a dozen throughout my Life, not including Schoolwork.
DeleteI find it hard to capitalise Nouns without immediately engaging a Mindset of, "Here's a Country that has started two great Wars in order make Money and/or unload some Ideology. What comfortable lexical Rules is it creating to enable this?" And that's how my whole german Experience goes. Uppercase makes no Point well which can't be better made with Reference to Lowercase. It takes me Nowhere without giving me the uncomfortable Sense that Someone thinks this is where I am supposed to need to be in order to see something false or escape the Horror of Genocide. Uppercase idealises; it romanticies; it preaches. It falls asleep and it dreams. It is a selfish Journey on a death Train.
Lowercase already has enough that is beautiful and that is abhorrent - and cummings is far more challenging to confront. Uppercase has always seemed like the easy way out.
in b4 "nowhere is an adverb here, not a noun" you (grammar) nazi bastards
DeleteAnd that "someone" is a pronoun. Fuck it, that was embarrassing. I really ought to read before I post. I can't seem to subconsciously capitalise only English nouns - it's not like German where they *feel* part of the word like they're aiming toward some dystopian vision of racial purity.
DeleteOh and I know "lowercase" is an adjective but that one was at least intentional :'/.
Maybe I'm the first person here to say it but I find reading this blog really boring. I have started reading hundreds of reviews of xkcd of various lengths and probably finished a dozen throughout my life, not including schoolwork.
DeleteI find it hard to pick up a post by Rob without immediately engaging a mindset of, "Here's a consumable that Rob has produced to make money and/or unload some issues. What comfortable fantasy is he creating to enable this?" And that's how my whole reading experience goes. Rob makes no point well which can't be better made with reference to reality. It takes me nowhere without giving me the uncomfortable sense that Rob thinks this is where I am supposed to need to be in order to see something false or escape something true. This blog idealises; it romanticises; it preaches. It falls asleep and it dreams. Rob is a selfish journey away from the truth. also he is fat
The world already has enough that is beautiful and that is abhorrent - and reality is far more challenging to confront. Rob's shitty half-assed reviews have always seemed like the easy way out.
Maybe I'm the first person here to say it but I find reading criticism of Rob's reviews really boring. I have started reading hundreds of reviews of reviews of xkcd of various lengths and probably finished a dozen throughout my life, not including the reviews themselves.
DeleteI find it hard to pick up criticism of the reviews without immediately engaging a mindset of, "Here's some invective that a commenter has produced to hide his love of xkcd and/or overenthusiastic hatred of Randall. What comfortable transition to apathy will disable this?" And that's how my whole reading experience goes. A review of a review makes no point well which can't be better made by writing a better review. It takes me nowhere without giving me the uncomfortable sense that this is where I am supposed to be in order to miss that the review reviewer is even more lazy than Rob. Metacritics idealise; they romanticise; they preach. They fall asleep and but they cannot dream. They are a selfish journey away from the truth.
The world already has enough people pointing out what is beautiful and what is abhorrent - so doing it yourself is even more challenging to confront. Merely criticising criticism has always seemed like the easy way out.
Maybe I'm the first person here to say it but I find personal hygiene really boring. I have started taking hundreds of showers of various lengths and probably finished a dozen throughout my life, not including school gym showers.
DeleteI find it hard to turn on the tap without immediately engaging a mindset of, "Here's water that some guy has heated to make money and/or unload some issues. What comfortable scent is he destroying to enable this?" And that's how my whole washing experience goes. Hygiene makes no point well which can't be better made with reference to smell. It takes me nowhere without giving me the uncomfortable sense that someone thinks this is where I am supposed to need to be in order to see something false or escape something true. Hygiene idealises; it romanticises; it preaches. It falls asleep and it dreams. It is a selfish journey away from the filth
The world already has enough that is beautiful and that is abhorrent - and BO is far more challenging to confront. Showering has always seemed like the easy way out.
Numbers are nouns.
DeleteSubstantive adjectives are still adjectives.
Delete"Nowhere", on the other Hand, is locative, and must be culled.
This is a surprisingly lukewarm response, Rob. First it was "xkcd is overrated", then "xkcd sucks" and now apparently "xkcd is mundane."

Maybe I'm the first person here to say it but I find sitting in the corner really boring. I have started sitting in hundreds of corners of various lengths and probably orgasmed because of it a dozen times throughout my life, not including the times I was touching myself.
ReplyDeleteI find it hard to sit in the corner without immediately engaging a mindset of, "Here's some intersection of three planes that some guy has started in order to make money and/or unload some issues. What comfortable Euclidean geometry equation is he creating to enable this?" And that's how my whole corner-sitting-in experience goes. Corners make no point well which can't be better made with reference to a spherical room. It takes me nowhere without giving me the uncomfortable sense that someone thinks this is where I am supposed to need to be in order to see something false or escape something true. I didn't hate 1023 either. I'm not sure I get all the references since to me Carmen Sandiego is an Apple //e game so I just remember stuff like the coffee pot, 'too slow, gumshoe' and now quaint references to Peking.

DeleteThere's a joke in the new strip, of course, but it's terrible. It's hardly even a joke. That said, the rest of the strip was surreal enough that I actually liked it a lot.
ReplyDeleteThe alt-text, too, only it should've cut off after "... trees you've ever seen." I'm beginning to realize more and more that Randy's problem is that he doesn't know when to end his strips.
Many women have that problem. At least he doesn't cry "rape!" after.
DeleteBBC2 Open University programming, Test Card F, Ceefax and a two-tone whistle, jumpers for goalposts... and was 'Allo 'Allo ever really that dirty?
ReplyDeleteI'm all for reminiscing about the times before Mattel realised that kids shows could be made into extended adverts for merchandise, when network execs hadn't yet realised that the best way of attracting eyeballs was to turn the TV into a mirror with all the difficult bits hidden. And perhaps I should forgive Randy's late arrival at the party - while the foundation for UK broadcasting was public service, for America it's a naughty treat.
But the transmitter network has been privatised as Arqiva, and BBC research handed to Siemens. Post-Hutton, it's no longer Buggers Broadcasting Communism, just a redactor of government and Apple press releases. And an ever-increasing licence fee pays for that fucking BBC THREE.
I blame you, British public. You voted 'em all in. 55 Days in Peking will soon replay as a fortnight in Tooting, and your children will line up at the Foxconn factory building ever wider screen iMacs to suit the Oriental eye.
You are wrong. Because the BBC is paid for by the licence fee not taxes (except BBC world service but that’s being changed) it doesn't reflect the government. In fact, there are justified complaints that it leans too far to the left to be truly neutral but i don't think anyone actually cares.
DeleteAlso BBC 3 is important in showing the diversity of 'Britishness'. We can't have the world thinking we all like good dramas, subtle comedy and insightful documentaries. They also need to know we watch utter trash such as Coming of Age and Big Fat Gypsy Wedding to truely understand our society. Although i guess channel 4 had that covered...
The current state of the BBC is another successful application of divide and conquer. When there was wide variety in politics, few channels to choose from, and the BBC owned a huge research and distribution infrastructure, no one individual government (in cahoots with commercial media) had the balance of power to rein in the BBC. So when Denis made the oft-quoted accusation about leftist bias, he was merely bawwing that they weren't acting as the propaganda arm of the Tory party in a decade where the police were so happy to act as its paramilitary wing.
DeleteThe BBC was fairly establishment until the '60s, but as Wilson adapted to modern media, so did the BBC adapt to modern politicians: rather than deferring to them, it questioned them. Wilson fared well from this in his first term, badly in his second, yet he didn't blame the messenger. Even Heath, who gave pro-competition EEC/EU law supremacy over Parliament, did not touch the BBC. That took a new sort of authoritarian ideology, not seen before from Tories or Labour.
And now back to the mindless hatred...
Where's my leap year comic? Randall, where is it? You've made me look like a fool in front of all my friends. Don't you see what you've done? You've... you've made me look like a fool.
ReplyDeleteEven if Randall thought this was a good comic, he set it up all wrong. It starts off as "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, except [all this stuff]" and then the guy responds "I don't remember the old show being that dark"? That's what "except" means, you dumb bastard. It means all that dark stuff is DIFFERENT. And then she goes along with what he said for no good reason!
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's supposed to be banter, but it doesn't seem that way. It feels like internal inconsistency to me. It wouldn't bother me, except Randall's got my dream job and he's doing it wrong :(
your dream job? are you really that pathetic? is your imagination that stunted? really?
Deletefuck you
isn't the democratising joy blah blah etc of the interwebs that any tosser can upload any old shite stick figure doodles they want and call it a 'webcomic'. they do not have to be funny or take more than a minute to draw. dude your dream job could literally be yours in the next five minutes.
DeleteCome on guys, I could volunteer at the local hospital but it wouldn't make me a doctor. You've got to make a living off it.
DeleteI know some people who want to make comics for a living. I don't think their imagination is stunted. Their emotional development certainly is, however.
but you don't have to start out making a living from it. you can't, really. even Mr Munroe didn't start out making a living from it. just like you can't be a doctor unless you put the time in to training. you have to start doing shit like this in the evenings & weekends & whatever & if you're any good then you'll gain a fanbase etc. so go on then. draw us a comic. I guarantee it'll be better than any xkcd so you're ahead already.
Delete@ 01:53 Yes, I'm sure you know better than them about their emotional development.
Deleteself-awareness is probably one of the least common human traits, so yes
DeleteHey, guys! Remember me? I'm back!
ReplyDeleteHey everybody, he's back!
DeleteI'm black
DeleteCarmen Sandiego is a computer game. It feels to me like basing a comic on its adaptation into a more popular form of media is a violation of Randy's nerd cred. What's next? Randy talks about how much he loves LoTR, but he has no idea who Tom Bombadil is?
ReplyDelete1023 sounds like a conversation between friends at a bar. One person says something like "I wonder what's on PBS this late at night?" And another chimes in with "Probably some game show about Carmen Sandiego." And another pipes up with "Haha, yeah, and the host is probably drunk... blah blah blah". It would probably be funny between those friends, at the bar, at that time, but it is absolutely NOT FUNNY in comic form. In fact, it's incredibly boring. My theory? Randall actually did have a conversation with his friends that went something like this, and it made him laugh so he put it in a comic. The poor guy already spent his two creative ideas (or is it one? zero?) in this life so now he has to do things like this.
ReplyDeleteTip: if I was more entertained writing a forum post on xkcdsucks than I was reading your comic, you failed.
implying Ran-dull has friends.
DeleteWhy does 1023 look like it was resized multiple times in paint? That writing is painful to read, and that's ignoring obvious content issues.
ReplyDeleteWeird. I had the same issue, but when I checked again just now it was fine.
DeleteIt's probably your fault.
Same thing happened to me the first time I loaded it. I was expecting some sort of joke about image resolution when I first looked at it.
Delete1023 definitely sounds like Randall read the Wikipedia article on "creepypasta" and decided to create his own. Unsurprisingly, it's awful and uninspired in every aspect.
ReplyDeleteThere is no Wikipedia article on creepypasta. Just a couple of lines in the "internet phenomena" section.
Deletechris houlihan's room
ReplyDeleteThe Room of Requirement
ReplyDeleteAnother reference to Downton Abbey, which Randall obviously doesn't actually watch (or even research on Wikipedia for that matter).
ReplyDeleteI've been less infuriated by the recent XKCDs. They aren't great, but they're a step in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm the first person here to say it but I find reading TVTropes really boring. I have started reading hundreds of TVTropes pages of various lengths and probably finished a dozen throughout my life, not including schoolwork.

Thanks a lot, Jon. Now I'm not going to get any work done today.
DeleteIs this website a joke? I just found this site randomly, but I am actually a fan of xkcd. It seems to me that many people commenting here are trying to put the comic on a pedestal that it never claims to be on. You seem to claim that the comic fronts to represent a nerd culture that it has actually betrayed - but there is no claim of representation! There is no betrayal! It's like ranting at the Oreo brand because their double-stuffed cookies don't conform to your preferred creme:cookie ratio - completely insane.
ReplyDeleteIt's arrogant to say a creative work sucks just because it doesn't conform to an arbitrary list of requirements that it never even claimed to ascribe to. I'm not saying you can't do it, but your indignation seems fake, as if there is a _hidden_ reason why you actually don't like the comic.
Perhaps this is a huge WOOSH and you are all just joking?
Is this anonymous a joke ? I just found this post randomly, but i am a fan of anonymouses. I see what you did there. I'm torn - I want to dissect your reversal/mimicry, but I'm sure you would just respond with the same joke...so I'll choose only one point to correct, and hope for the best. You wrote:
Delete"He seems to claim that this site fronts to represent the betrayal of a nerd culture - but there is no claim of betrayal!"
However, there actually IS a claim of betrayal, as in "selling out". Contrast this with the comic, which only makes the small and accurate claim of association with "science and math".
Regardless, I think I understand this blog now, based on the response I got...
I think this guy is for sure

2:04, You've got the misdirected anger just about perfect, but your elipsis has an extra dot and your apostrophe suffers from double escape syndrome. 2/10, try harder next time.

DeleteThe fourth dot is mine. It's there to end my sentence containing your post.
There is no apostrophe in my name. My name is That's what she. Is that confusing for you?
Your attempt at being a dickshit is perfect. 10/10
Stupid Blogger turned my & #39; into an apostrophe there.

ReplyDeleteI profit handsomely from my lack of talent and creative ability.

DeleteGuys, the contest is now over. Cast your votes for the best "I find ____ really boring" pasta on this thread. Polls close in 24 hours.
ReplyDeleteinb4 I find contests really boring
DeleteWhy does everyone think that victory in competition is the most accurate indication of a pasta's value?
DeleteOn the Internet, losing a popularity contest makes you some sort of invalid, and everyone likes to go round pointing out when you fail, because they'll be seen a sophisticated.
You think people who get no votes are are idiots? If you actually had any non-idiot friends, you'd know that a lot of intelligent, educated people are unpopular.
From my experience, those who win competitions are mostly unimaginative conformists, appealers to the lowest common denominator, etc.
On the other hand, winning a competition is totally cool: "I'm so brilliant at pastas I get all the votes lololol," when posting a pasta correlates directly with wasted time, and doing it at all serves no intelligible purpose.
Is this contest a joke? I just found this contest randomly, but I am actually a fan of that copypasta. It seems to me that many people commenting here are trying to put the original post on a pedestal that he never claims to be on. You seem to claim that the post fronts to represent a nerd rage culture that it has actually betrayed - but there is no claim of representation! There is no betrayal! It's like ranting at the xkcd comic because the stick figures' heads don't connect to their necks:head-to-neck ratio - completely insane.
DeleteIt's arrogant to say a post sucks just because it doesn't conform to an arbitrary list of requirements that it never even claimed to ascribe to. I'm not saying you can't do it, but your indignation seems fake, as if there is a _hidden_ reason why you actually don't like the post.
Perhaps this is a huge WOOSH and you are all just joking?
Since when not voting in the polls and just regurgitating this blog's memes suddenly became okay? I don't think it's okay.
DeleteI guess I'll... I'll vote for the hygiene one
DeleteA contest to see who can copy, find and replace the best? Why not have a contest to see who can actually write their own informative or interesting comment, as opposed to copying another?
DeleteAlmost all creative writing is just a rearrangement of existing words, 9:25.
DeleteMaybe I'm the first person here to say it but I find eating pasta really boring. I have started eating hundreds of noodles of pasta of various lengths and probably finished a dozen throughout my life, not including school lunches.
ReplyDeleteI find it hard to start eating pasta without immediately engaging a mindset of, "Here's a plate of noodles that some Italian guy has produced to make money and/or unload some issues. What comfortable flour is he cooking to enable this?" And that's how my whole eating experience goes. Pasta makes no point well which can't be better made with reference to other staple carbs. It takes me nowhere without giving me the uncomfortable sense that someone thinks this is what I am supposed to eat to be in order to see something false or escape something true. Pasta idealises; it romanticises; it preaches. It falls asleep and it dreams. It is a selfish journey away from a meal.
The world already has enough that is tasty and that is unappetizing - and potatoes are far more challenging to confront. Pasta has always seemed like the easy way out.
In respone to Anon 2:49, I have ACTUALLY created a poll for this. VOTE HERE! You can vote as many times as you like. Votes will close on March 9th at 12:00 UTC (unless I forget). If there are any late entries, I'll add them to the poll.
ReplyDeleteFans want to buy a print of his pond drawing. I certainly couldn't get anywhere near that quality, but his competency still falls well short of expertise. I wish I could find a market for MY practice pieces.
ReplyDeletexkcd did start out as a bunch of doodles that most people would have kept to themselves, so I guess it's going back to its roots.
1024: ARRGH PIECE OF SHIT... RANDY YOU AREN'T PROFOUND, YOU HAVE A SOCIAL DISEASE
ReplyDeleteOnly a narrow minded NT would fail to understand the gift of profundity inherent in social disease.
DeleteI kind of liked 1024. Felt like old xkcd, anyway.
ReplyDeleteyeah i like 1024 too, except for the alt-text. It didn't felt as if he was showing off or anything, and was unexpected without being just LOLRANDUMB. All in all, quite good.
ReplyDeleteWhere will we all go if Carl ever closes down this blog? I vote Rob makes a new hate blog and we all migrate there if that happens.
ReplyDeleteCarl will never close down this blog. The tens of dollars he makes from it is too much to give up.
DeleteI only come here because I love XKCD and I like reading troll rants about it.
ReplyDeleteOh good lord. I was planning to do a quick check of the forums to see just how many people were raving about Randall's "artistic talent", then posting a sarcastic reference to Randall being the next Monet on xkcdsucks, but one of the forum posters beat me to it (non-sarcastically).
ReplyDelete"rhomboidal » Fri Mar 02, 2012 8:40 am UTC
Eat your heart out, Monet."
I don't want to live on the same planet as these people. While prettier than most xkcds, that's totally not even a drawing, is it? It's a photo with some kind of drawify Photoshop filter applied to it. Sorry, but you don't get to rave about the artistic talent it takes to do some simple Photoshop manipulation. Did Randall even take the photo himself? Mad props in advance to anybody who can find the photo it's based on elswhere on the web.
You total retard.
DeleteAre you sure he wasn't sarcastic? If you've got a forum account you should check the nature of his previous posts to be certain. Surely nobody's that moronic.
DeleteWho says it wasn't something he drew himself on photoshop or another art editing program, as compared to a photo he put through a filter?
Delete7:37, this reminds me of the fairly tale I just made up for this post in which an anally retentive man with occasional delusional episodes records his daily motions.
DeleteOn the first day he writes, "One turd."
On the second day he writes, "One turd, formed as the last."
On the third day he writes, "One turd, formed as the last."
This follows for another 1021 days, religiously recorded: "One turd, formed as the last."
On the 1024th day he writes, "One priceless golden egg."
He walks to the Royal Institution in London (lol science reference!), carrying a shit-smeared golden egg. He insists he has magic buttocks and defies any of the eminent scientists of England to prove him wrong.
The ghost of Henry Cavendish (lol geek namedrop!) appears in front of this queer individual and utters, "You just bought an egg at the local market, painted it gold, then smeared it with shit to make it look like it had come out your ass."
"How do you know this?" the broken man utters.
"Because Randy just did it with xkcd #1024," replies zombie Cavendish.
"Implying dead scientists take time out of their afterlife to read xkcd!" shrieks the pathetic psychotic.
"Your allegation is mere PPD," replies Cavendish, vanishing in a puff of good taste.

Anyone else think the art in 1024 looks like the crappy CGI that animated Fox shows use to mock CGI?
ReplyDeleteNope.
DeleteBoo xkcd! Ignorant "Ran-dull" joke! Guess what guys? I'm as boring and repetitive as the comic I'm making fun of! LOLFAGS! — Cyanide & Happiness
ReplyDeleteCool man, peace out. Have a nice day.
DeleteNot cool man, war in. Have a horrible night.
DeleteI really 1024 comic, and would love one of those books. Maybe f he made an ebook of that.
ReplyDeleteSeriously? You need a big book to tell you to go outside and enjoy yourself? Try getting a life, go outside. Is that even possible for you? Maybe you can join randall just fantisising about megan.
DeleteThat’s a little cruel. I mean, the comic was stupid, but it had good art, better than normal anyway.
DeleteTry reading other people’s comments, idiot, the art was obv a photoshop.
Deleteexcept it clearly isn't. is this bog always full of morons?
DeleteIt might have been. You can play with drawings in Photoshop too, you know.
Deleteits clearly handrawn, you cant just make stuff out of the blue in photoshop, the brushes arn't that good.
DeleteRight. Draw some basic outlines, run a bit of competent-but-amateurish shading over it, have fans clamor to buy a copy as though it were one of the most beautiful images ever crafted. Randall's entire life must feel like chilling by a lake. Guy's got it made.
DeleteRegardless of how easy it is to make, it is pretty good looking, although I wouldn't pay money for it.
DeleteI disagree, I didn't 1024 comic at all.
Deletewhen you think how much lovely expressive art is being produced & ignored, the fact that people are comparing this sterile, bland, emotionless piece of shit to Monet (Monet, for christ's sake) makes me despair for humanity. So he used a few different shades of blue & copied & pasted some green blobs. There's no attempt to reflect the play of light & shade you'd get in nature. the darkness under the trees is downright creepy. it looks cold, unforgiving. Sure it's 40,000 times better than a usual stick figure with no face - no fucking FACE - but it's not actively 'good' let alone anything anyone sane would want on their wall. for fucksake.
DeleteLol, ppl read xkcdsucks comments?

ReplyDeleteI wish the last comic was the last comic in xkcd, ever. It would be such a perfect ending to the whole train wreck.
ReplyDeleteGuys, I've just noticed. The list of comics at the bottom of xkcd.com has changed. Gone from that list are Copper, Achewood, Wondermark and Indexed. And the new ones just added are Three Word Phrase, Oglaf, SMBC and Buttersafe.
ReplyDeleteAnyone care to speculate why?
Maybe he stopped reading those comics and started reading the others, and is just changing the text to reflect his new opinions?
Deleteit's been political in the past, no reason it wouldn't be again
Deletewoo, now I'll be able to say I was into Buttersafe before it was cool

DeleteHey Jon Levi, by saying anon 10:14 on your poll do you mean anon 11:14 on this thread: http://xkcdsucks.blogspot.com/2011/10/comic-965-periodic-table-of-terrible.html
ReplyDeleteCause that was the guy who made the English rant and others besides.
xkcd sucks
ReplyDeletedot tumblr dot com
He's right, it works!
xkcd sucks, get your act together and post quicker!!! its no fun privately hating an xkcd comic without you :( :(
ReplyDeleteYou want hate for comic 1025. Fine. I will first say that Randall is scraping the bottom of the GOOMH barrel here if he thinks this is observational. I for one have never looked at an interesting phrase and even considered that it might be an interesting name for a Tumblr blog.
DeleteHowever, on reading the comic a second time, I notice the caption starts with "For me...", which suggests he is describing his own sad habits, and not trying to pigeon-hole us a la 906.
Secondly, the comic seems to have found its way to Gizmodo, which is just bad.
And in case no one here's said it yet, Tumblr sucks.
Maybe I'm the first person here to say it but I find tumblr really boring.
DeleteOh, you already said it. That's good, I really didn't want to write this anyways. Like Rob I'm too lazy to put in the effort to write a whole new post.
herp derp, I agree with rob, xkcd is dumb lololol. XKCD rules and everyone knows it.. you are all a tiny minority.
ReplyDelete0/10
Deletebutthurt xkcdrones = komedy gold
DeleteIt's true, they are a tiny minority. It's great reading them desperately trying to rationalize their emotional reactions though. It would be less interesting if XKCD was a genuinely awesome or horrible comic. But really XKCD is just like any other popular comic... Sometimes it's funny and sometimes it isn't. Yet the people here continually find reasons to act like XKCD is the biggest crime on the internet. It's pretty funny, I think.
Delete2/10
Deletesatisfactory as University of Phoenix final dissertation if paper sufficiently soft
The comic sucks, is it the worst comic in the world no not even close, is it the one displaying the worst "effort-and-goodness-to-success" ratio? Yeah, quite possibly.
